Saint John, NB, Canada 7/21/09- After a tenth place finish in the IWK 250 at Riverside Int’l Speedway, the Lonnie Sommerville Racing team heads to Lonnie’s home track of Speedway 660 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Saint John, NB driver’s last race at the 1/3rd mile facility was actually in a relief role for Matt Harris in the “Best of the Best” super late model event two weeks ago; a race in which Sommerville won.  The Parts for Trucks 100 was rescheduled from earlier this season as rain forced the event to be moved to this weekend. With just six races left on the 2009 Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour and only four of the six paying points towards the final championship standings,  Speedway 660 is a pivotal stop for the Lonnie Sommerville Racing team as they look to capture their first ever MPST championship.

QUOTES

-It was just two weeks ago that you won in a “Best of the Best” super late model race here; it is your home track, how big is this race for your team and your chances at the MPST championship?

“Well the fact that it’s my home track means a lot to us.  We’ve ran pretty good here in the past and last time I raced here I won in Matt Harris’s car, so for our confidence it’s a big race, no question.  As for the championship, it’s really no bigger than any other race. It pays the same amount of points as any other race.  It could be a big race as far as momentum is concerned to catapult us into this stretch run we have coming up.”

-Even though you were in a different team’s car when you won the “Best of the Best” super late model race here, how much information or new things will you be able to translate to your car for this weekend’s race?

Anytime you are in someone else’s car you learn new things.  For us though, Gary [Crooks] is also the crew chief on Matt’s car.  We may try a couple of small things that are different because of his driving style, but in the end we will probably just trust our notes from our past races here since we run well here anyways.”

-This race is one that was rescheduled because of rain and is now the second of six races in a row for the MPST, how does this affect you and your team since this would have been a weekend off for you guys?

“As long as you don’t tear up your equipment, it doesn’t affect your team like you might think. We’ve been lucky and haven’t had any accidents to speak of this year so our guys at the shop have been working on getting our old car ready.  Our season is a little shorter than most places because of the weather, so it has to be done and eventually you get used to going somewhere every weekend for a race. It’s the same thing as running your local short track every weekend, except we go to different tracks.”
